US Flag to fly at half-staff

on Friday,  Dec 29 and on Thursday, Jan 4
Postmaster General Megan J. Brennan, by the authority granted to the heads of the several departments and agencies of the federal government by President Eisenhower in Proclamation 3044, 19 FR 1235 (Mar. 1, 1954), has ordered that that the flag of the United States shall be flown at half-staff at all Post Offices and upon all Postal Service buildings and grounds in the Ohio Valley District to honor Ginger Ballard (Postmaster of Dublin, Ohio) and Lance Herrera-Dempsey (Supervisor, Customer Services) on the dates of their funerals or memorial services.  Funeral services for Ginger Ballard will be held Friday, December 29, at Scioto Ridge United Methodist Church in Hilliard, OH. Funeral services for Lance Herrera-Dempsey will be held Thursday, January 4, 2018, at Brune Mortuary in Bishop, CA.

Many of you may be aware of the tragic incidents that occurred in Ohio on Saturday morning (Dec. 23).

It is with deep regret that we inform you of the passing of two of our postal family members, Postmaster Ginger Ballard and Supervisor Lance Herrera-Dempsey of the Dublin, Ohio, Post Office, as a result of these incidents. 

Our thoughts are with the victims of these senseless acts of violence, and with their families. We have arranged for grief counselors to assist employees and their families in coping with this tragic loss.

An investigation by the Postal Inspection Service and local law enforcement is ongoing. The suspect believed to be responsible for both incidents has been apprehended and is in custody. We will provide additional information as appropriate.
