UPMA Chapter Officers:            2/27/2021

Still debating? Do I want to attend the 5th Annual UPMA National Convention, at Kalahari in Sandusky Ohio, or not? Debate, no longer. Of course, you do. There are many reasons why you should visit the Great State of Ohio and attend the 2021 National Convention! Read all about it here.

The Ohio Chapter will provide free shuttle service between Kalahari Resort and Cleveland Airport.  Passengers must sign up for the free shuttle in advance. The cut-off date to sign up is July 15, 2021; the free shuttle service will not be available after that date. The UPMA Ohio Chapter is providing this service free of charge to registered convention attendees. Be cognizant of the logistics and cost of this shuttle for the Ohio Chapter and please do not sign up if you do not need the service and cancel if you change your plans. Shuttle service is available August 14, 15, 19, 20.  Here is the link to make airport reservations:   https://form.jotform.com/210604754797160. Here is the phone number to contact directly if you do not have access to reserve on line:  330-331-4238. (Gold note: Shuttle service is available on other dates for a fee by calling the same number. You are responsible for fees on other dates.)

The UPMA National Executive Board voted to freeze the national convention registration fees at the current level until June 14! That gives more time for COVID vaccines to work, COVID virus to decline, and our members to be more ready to travel! Thanks Board, for continuing to work in the best interest of our members! Look for an updated registration form soon.

The UPMA Ohio Chapter has chosen 4 Paws for Ability, www.4pawsforability.org, to support at this year’s national convention at the Kalahari Resort in Sandusky, Ohio. 4 Paws for Ability is a nonprofit, 501©(3) organization whose mission is to place quality service dogs with children with disabilities and veterans who have lost use of limbs or hearing and educate the public regarding use of service dogs in public places. They will be attending the convention at Kalahari, speaking at both the Church Service on Sunday and the General Session on Monday, along with hosting an exhibit table and accepting donations for their worthy cause.

We also have the opportunity to do more with a group who partners with them, www.funds2orgs.com. The story of The Funds2Orgs Group developed through the years. It started with a single shoe that washed ashore after the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami. At the time, Wayne Elsey was the president of an international shoe manufacturing company. Wayne went on to establish one of the largest nonprofits in the United States, helping people affected by some of the world’s most significant natural disasters, including the Indian Ocean tsunami, Hurricane Katrina and the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. He led efforts to ship over 20 million pairs of shoes to people and places hurt by natural disasters.

For those chapters that choose to participate, gently used shoes will be collected at UPMA Chapter Conventions this Spring and Summer; arrangements can be made for pick up through Lou Stuckey, contact below.  We will also have collection stations for shoes at Kalahari. Shoes will be donated around the world in the name of United Postmasters and Managers of America. If you are interested in having your chapter participate, please contact Lou Stuckey at stuckey31@msn.com for more information.
